In the 17th century, afforded endless opportunities for court ceremony, promenades, and people- watching.

Stylish or eccentric, the Isfahan is captured the attention of writers and artists alike, providing colorful subject matter for the growing genre of genre of single-page Paintings.

For millennia, nomads have wandered across the steppes and oases of central Asia in search of pasture For their herds and traveled along the fame trading route, the” Silk road,” which stretched from China to the Mediterranean. The Exhibition presents mementos of this nomadic culture in dazzling display of mid-nineteenth to mid-twentieth-century traditional garments, personal adornment, and domestic accessories.

 

This exhibition showcases masterpieces of illuminated and illustrated manuscripts produced in Islamic lands from the ninth to the nineteenth century. these irresistible objects of art cover arrange of textual genres: Devotional, scientific, historical, epic and poetic. in the Islamic book, the primary vehicle for literary and artistic expression, the power of poetry and prayer and visual

form collides. This exhibition coincides with the initiative to catalogue and make high resolution digital surrogates of all Islamic manuscripts and single pages preserved at the Walters art Museum.

 

In Arabic, the word Qalam originally meant the calligrapher’s reed pen. calligraphers were and esteemed in Islamic circles because their pens writes the sacred words of the Qur’an, the only book of Islam. The attitude toward painters. however, has not always been so positive since their brushes could depict-thus create-human and animal figures, thereby challenging the sole creative authority of God. Persian poets of the sixteenth century countered this negative perception by describing the painter’s brush as a second Qalam,

Equivalent to that calligrapher’s pen. The two Qalams came together in the vibrant bookmaking workshops of the Islamic courts of Persia and India were calligraphers and painters collaborated to produce a wealth of illustrated manuscripts and elaborate albums filled with specimens of beautiful writing and painting.

 

Photographer that considers the everyday lives of their subjects. The exhibition also addresses the process of documentation and how they relate to the photographers’ understandings of their own hyphenated Iranian identities.

The photographs capture the varied lives and interests of the Iranian American community in Los Angeles-from toddlers at play to an acupuncturist in her los feliz office, from young man break dancing to a young woman at prayer. There are also a number of recognizable figures, such as public intellectual Reza Aslan and comedian Maz Jobrani.

Chahar Chesmat: Iranian women create brings together the work of four artists, Mina Momeni, Farideh Shahsavarani, Taravat Talepasant and Afarin Rahmanifar. Each of these women works in variety of media and each portray women in Iranian culture. However each also has a unique and varying approach to content and imagery which is in part informed by their differing national and generational views. Chahar Chesmat, Farsi for “four parts,” demonstrates that despite differences of generation, place of residence, and cultural influences, each of these artists depict the experience of Iranian women; they all find tremendous resonance and meaning in Iranian culture and history as well as contemporary life.

Iran inside Out after two successful runs at the Chelsea art museum in New York and the De Paul museum in Chicago explores the varied forms of artistic expression of young Iranian artist working within and out side of Iran today. In its Dubai edition, the exhibition features a selection of the most arresting works, alongside some of the finest examples of contemporary Iranian art drown from Dr Farjam’s/ Hafez Foundation private art collection.

As part of their year long Islam today program focusing on new media politics and popular culture in the Muslim world the center for south Asia studies, the center for Middle eastern studies at UC Berkeley present an art exhibition high lighting new work by young Iranian artists.

This new and on going display will show cases the museum Asia collections with works from diverse areas ranging from Iran and Afghanistan to Cambodian and Thailand. The Persian Art section: centers around the Museum’s newly restored Persian tile painting and includes manuscripts from Ferdowsi’s Shahnama embroidered textiles from the16th to19th centuries, and ceramic from as early as the10th century.

The majority of Akhavan’s work is site-specific, induced and influenced by the politics, geographies, artists and architectures within proximity to the particular work.for his debut solo exhibition at the third line, Akhavan will create an installation including series of maps painted directly on wall within the gallery space.

The Mellon Gallery, Fitz William

Some 120 works will be displayed in the Mellon Gallery of the Fitz William Museum. Images of battles rescues and dragons will record history with romance, wit, and much more. Britain is fortunate to hold most of the richest Shahnameh material in the world. There are 15 Manuscripts in Cambridge alone. The exhibits will however be supplemented from other UK and European lenders; from the holding of public or semi-public collections such as the British library to the rarely seen materials from private collections such of that of her Majesty the Queen. These will provide examples of the rich range of styles in the art of Persian book painting, together with number of related artifacts.

 

Some 500 selected pieces from the fabulous Nasser D. Khalili Collection of Islamic Art will be on view, most of which have not been exhibited in Europe before. The pieces span thirteen centuries and include richly illuminated copies of the Holy Qur’an as well as secular manuscripts and paintings, magnificent wall hangings and carpets, exquisite ceramics and glass, fine metal work and sumptuous gold, jewels, lacquer ware and stone. These treasures will be displayed in three main sections, Faith, Wisdom and Destiny, to illustrate not only the relationship between art and the sacred, but also what is meant by the term “Islamic art’.

 

Art Reach Foundation

This exhibition that brings together the works of 51 women artists from the Islamic world, is a selection of work by established female artists—some veiled, others not—from Islamic countries as diverse as Sudan, Malaysia, Turkey, Iran and Pakistan, as well as the Levant, the Gulf States, and North Africa. The international exhibition is hosted by Yale’s Council on Middle East Studies (CMES), part of the Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies.

Persian Visions offers a glimpse in to the aspects of human existence—family, heritage, mortality, language, memory—that engage us all. These photographers offer a poignant reminder that at the center of political turmoil there can be humanity; and that a keen eye tuned to the tensions of modern life need not be blind to its poetry.

 

The Arthur M. Sackler Gallery        

The Smithsonian opens its newest exhibition "Falnama: The Book of Omens" at the Sackler Gallery. The Falnama were created in the 16th- and 17th-century Iran and Turkey. In the Islamic calendar, the year 1000 was looming on the horizon and sultans, shahs and common people used these manuscripts to explore the unknown. This important exhibition is the first ever devoted to these illustrated texts, notable for their scale and bold compositions.

The Sackler Gallery will host this international exhibition that features works from the Topkapi Palace Library in Istanbul, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin, the Louvre Museum in Paris and private collections from around the world. BBC World News America followed the curator, conservators and designers in their final days before the opening.

For this 2nd edition of PHOTOQUAI, the musée du quai Branly is honoring Iranian photography in its West Mezzanine, amidst the permanent collections: the exhibition 165 years of Iranian photography gives an overview of Iranian photography from the end of the XIXth century, with the portraits from the Qajar era and the photo studios which appeared in Iran at the time of Reza Shah Pahlavi, up until the most contemporary works by major Iranian photographers.

Light of Sufis the Mystical Art of Islam feature some 25 objects related to mystical branch of Islam known as Sufism. inspired by Sufi ideologies and the poetry of celebrated mystic al-Ghazzali and Jalal al-Din Rumi, Artist from Medieval Islamic period to the present day have produced works ranging from ceramic and metal wares to illustrated manuscripts and photographs. The theme of light and enlighten is emphasized throughout both, literary and in spiritual sense.

The Light of the Sufis exhibition is part of the Muslim Voices Arts and Ideas Festival.

 

This unprecedented Exhibition features artist from Middle East, center Asia and its diasporas the exhibition examines the different ways with which artist engage with people,object images, and ideas traveling across geographic spaces, media forms, histories, and personal contexts Encompassing a variety of media and artistic strategies,
 

Tarjame/ Translation treat the multiple processes of translation as dynamic and complex, from linguistic and textual maneuvers, to the transformation of consciousness engendered by the increasingly globalized world

Shah Abbas was key figure in the creation of Modern Iran. Shah of Iran from 1587-1629 AD, His legacy continues to this day and he is  Remembered as one of the country’s most influential Kings. He was a great military leader, credited with keeping his external enemies at bay and quelling a civil war at home. His trade policies established Iran as a world power. The exhibition will feature many extraordinary loans, never before seen outside of Iran. The exhibition will examine four key sites:

 

Isfahan, the capital of Shah Abbas. And the three
Shi’i shrine cities, Mashhad, Ardabil and Qume, using loans of paintings, manuscripts, ceramic and carpets.

Isfehan became the Capital city of Iran under Shah Abbas 1 in 1598. In Persian it was known to contemporaries as Isfahan nesf-e jahan (Isfahan is half the world) because of his importance and splendor. This is reflected in the brilliant mosques. Palace, bridges and cathedrals that survive to this day. At the same time Isfahan has also been an important mint, both in the pre-Islamic times. The exhibition will show the history of this splendid city through its coinage, focusing particularly on the Safavid period from The 16th- 18th centuries. In addition, objects bank notes and stamps relating to Isfahan will draw attention to the importance of the city. Thebeauty of Isfahan and the diversity of its crafts continue to attract art lovers up to the present time.

A display of a recently acquired art works by Iranian artist Khosrow hassanzadeh, which offers
contemporary perspective on Iranian history, religion and culture.

 

It focuses on wrestler Ghulamreza Takhti, Olympic medalist and national hero of Iran (d.1968) whose title is jahan  pahlavan , world hero’. The exhibition examines his place in history and the ancient roots of the resettling tradition in Iran.

2009 makes the 150th anniversary of Edward - Fitz Jerald’s lad marks translation of the poetry of medieval Persian astronomer Omar Khayyam. Fitz Gerald’s Works become unpredented popular phenomenon in England and America’s by the 1930s, the Rubaiyat was by some accounts the most published after Shakespeare and the Bible.

Rubaiyat collection: ranging from Persian manuscript and Miniature editions to parodies and playing cards to reveal how the Rubaiyat phenomenon constructed on idealized orient even as Omar Khayyam and his poems helped readers understand their own lives.

Another little show to while a way the no- mans of the art world in January: the elegant yet impulsive paintings of Tala Madani make it worth a trip to this small new west end Gallery.
                                                           

Madani, only 28 is an Iranian artist based in Amsterdam whose work combines a cartoonish Mise-en-scene with calculated sloppy brush work and strong graphic patterns- that a lot of contradictory elements to get on to a canvas. Her quirky new series of paintings is based on the graphic”dazzle”camouflage painted on ships in the First World War

The burden of representation: contemporary photography from Iran features new works by six Tehran-based photographers. The selected works offer insight in to multiple layers of Iranian society as experienced by those living within it.

 

Each artist combine varying techniques within the medium of photography to express the profound and complex sentiments one feels about one’s homeland. Through there lenses, we see the humor and the tragedy, the tranquility and the turbulence, the fear and the security of life in Iran

The Gallery program Focuses on representing and promoting emerging artists from across Europe and countries such as China, Russia, India Iran, Korea, Taiwan and United States.

 

Many of these artists straddle two cultures, a phenomenon which they also address in their art. They explore the issues of hybridize and cultural tension between the East and the West, the Ancient and contemporary, the sacred and the profane.

The Exhibition features abroad range of visual cultures, from Egypt to Iran, united by an appreciation for beautiful Arabic text. Calligraphy serves many purposes in Islamic art, from conveying meaning to acting as decoration, and its importance began in the early days of Islam, when Muslims believe that god first revealed the Koran to Mohammad.
                                                

The Koran is the holy text and foundation of Islam, and skilled Calligraphers throughout centuries have striven to make the text itself beautiful.

Route will showcase the work of 15 eminent and emerging artists from around the globe and will be an annual event in water house and Dodd’s
calendar.

 

This exhibition brings together sculptures, photographers, print makers and painters originally from the Middle East an Arab World.

Europe and America were inspired by The orient and its artistic out put. Western painters were so impressed. They travel extensively in the Middle- East and India, recording the view of the region that was irresistible to Victorians with the sense of romance.

 

This orient list Artist dominated 19 century art until the Inevitable change of fashion arrived. For decade their works was denigrated. Now that the people it was said to patronize have become the biggest buyers, attitude are changing orientalist art is fashionable once again. Instead of being about how European and American artist depicted the Islamic world changed aesthetics in the west. This is most visible in decorative arts, specially glass and ceramic, but is also applied to architecture and fine arts. Well in 20 Century 

Ardeshir Mohases Art and Satire in Iran brings together nearly 70 rarely seen drawings by Ardeshire     Mohassess on loan from the library of congress in  Washington DC and from several private collections  In this country.

 

Mohasses born 1938 Iran is a self  thought artist with philosophical sense of humor. Its drawing expresses the ironic and absurd condition as  witnessed both. before and after the Iranian  revelation in 1979. Since the early 1960s, his elaborate tableaux as well as simple, raw drawings created for newspapers and magazines- including New York Times have been exhibited in Iran, Europe, Asia and the United States.

 

This exhibition focuses on monochromatic ink drawings by this legendary artist that provide unique insight into Iranian history. Some of the works have never been publicly exhibited.

Art Services International in Alexandria, Virginia support for national tour and catalog has been provided by the Annenberg Foundation; culture Ireland; the E Rhodes and Leona B. carpenter foundation; and an indemnity from the federal council on the arts and the humanities.

 

The Arthur M. Sackler Gallery has received support for this exhibition from the embassy Of India to the United States. His excellency Michael Collins, ambassador of Ireland to the United States of America is honorary patron of the exhibition.

Masterpieces of Islamic Art reveals 1000 years of artistic production from the 9th to the 19th century. The pieces are representative of a wide geographical region, ranging from Spain to Indonesia.

Among the works in the exhibition, the visitor will find illuminated manuscripts, metal and glass objects, textiles, jewelery and paintings, many of which have already been shown in Parma, London and Paris.

Nastaliq is one of the main genres of Islamic calligraphy. It was developed in Iran in 14th 15th centuries has been popular in Persian, Turkish and south Asian cultural spheres of influence.

 

Some of the works on display date back to Safavid and Qajar eras and some are creations of contemporary artist. The exhibition also displaying traditional Instruments used for Iranian calligraphy Which include various kinds of pen holders Penknives, and scissors,

Kaveh Golestan was the photojournalist with the longest continuous presence in Iran from before the Revolution until his death in 2003. This retrospective exhibition of his stark black and white photography covers the period from 1975 to the late 1990s, beginning with his iconic social realism of Tehran's disenfranchised. Golestan was an eyewitness to the Iranian Revolution and his photographs not only capture the major political upheavals that radically changed his country into an Islamic Republic; they are an intimate portrayal of a people and society in rapid transition.

Photography brought Golestan worldwide acclaim. In 1979 he received the Robert Capa Award. A prize collected thirteen years later, due to the political climate in Iran. A regular contributor to Time magazine, he became a noted documentary filmmaker. In 1991 he released the acclaimed film Recording the Truth, about the situation of journalists in Iran.

The show exhibits the work of six young Iranians, all born between 1974 and 1981, who have all studied photography in Tehran. While the woman have very different artistic visions, the photographs are all marked by the theme of identity, of being young and female in today's Iran and of how that generation views the past. While some of the photographs capture everyday scenes others use collage and other methods to create individual and distinctive photographic styles.

A conference focusing on the developments in the historiography of Iran in comparative perspective.

The Persian speaking world has enjoyed a long tradition of historical writing which sought to situate the Iranian people within particular narrative of descent and historical development. These narratives were to be challenged with introduction of new historical methods from Europe in the late 19th century. By the late 20th century here was dramatic increase in historical writing in Iran, partly as a consequence of the need to produce new national narratives and partly the result of the demand engendered by the growth in literacy and communications. The writing of History, reflecting realities of the day, has more often than not proved to be profoundly political act. Historical texts, narratives, And memoirs have all south to shape and define the way in which Iranian have thought of themselves and their history.

This interdisciplinary conference encourage Investigations not only with an eye on contemporary socio-political dynamics, but further, and more importantly, with the aim gradual to fill some of the lingering gaps in our knowledge about Iranian and Jewry, ultimately to enrich both fields of Iranian and Jewish studies. In this spirit, the conference welcomes abroad range of investigations in to previously unexamined or under-explored historical and cultural contributions of Iranian Jews to Persian and /or Jewish cultures.

The conference on Iranian studies will bring Toronto approximately 250 scholars from various parts of the world for the presentation of their current research on Iran.
 

This is the largest international gathering of scholars, who study, teach and write on Iran.

The conference includes a book exhibit by publishers of titles of general interest to scholars as well as the wider reading public in various fields of Iranian and Iran-related cultures, literatures, arts, religions, and civilizations.

The Program Committee will complete its deliberations and contact all individuals who have proposed papers and panels by February 15, 2008.

Incorporating both Iranian and non-Iranian visualizations, the goal of this conference is to explore anthropologically the wide range of filmic representations of Iran.

The conference will gather together anthropologists, ethnographers, film-makers, photographers and artists from Iran and elsewhere, who are interested in the visual representation of Iran. It aims to bring these experts into dialog to interpret and theorize visual representations of Iran

Seoul International Cartoon and animation festival in south Korean Capital

The event’s 2009 people focus has been devoted to Iran’s Ali- Akbar sadeqi and will screen his Maleck Khorshid, cities, Flower Storm, Rock and Zal and Simorgh produced between 1971 and 1977.

Sadeghi has participated in numerous national and international festivals, including 2002 Cannes junior, 2005 Los Angeles film festival and 2007 Bolonia Int’l film festival.

Karim works at ostrich farm outside of Teheran, Iran He leads a simple and contented life with his family in his small house,until one day when one of the ostriches runs away Karim is blamed for the loss and is fired from the farm soon after, he travels to the city in order to repair his elder daughter’s hearing aid but finds himself mistaken for a motorcycle taxi driver Thus begins his new: profession ferrying people and goods through heavy traffic But the people and material goods that he deals with daily starts to transform Karim’s generous and honest nature, much to the distress of his wife and daughters It is up to those closest to him to to restore the values that he had once cherished.

 Middle Eastern film Festival Focuses on Iran

The festival reintroduces some of the most significant works of the last two decades of Iranian cinema, from Auteur directors Bahram Beizai (Bashu the little strenger), Abbas Kiarostami (wher is my friend house?) And Amir Naderi( the Runner) to Lesser known, but influential, female directors such Rakshan Bani Etemad (Nargess), Tahmineh milani (two Women) and Manijeh Hekmat (Three Women).

Renowned Iranian actor- director Attila Pesyani is slated to staged his devil’s ship at the Edinburgh international film festival in Scotland. The play recounts the story of five women living on an island deserted by men who are contemplating whether to leave or to stay.

 

First staged at 2008 Fajr international theater festival. In his youth, Attila Pesyani worked with peter brook and the legendary polish theater maker Tadeusz Kentor.
