Roshan Cultural Heritage Institute would like to congratulate Safoura Nourbakhsh, the first recipient of Roshan Institute Fellowship for Excellence in Persian Studies at UMD, on the progress made toward completing her Ph.D. dissertation “Expressions of Gender and Sexuality in Persian Sufism.”
Ms. Nourbakhsh began her doctoral work in the Department of Women’s Studies in 2005 and expects to defend her dissertation in Spring 2014. During her Fellowship in 2013, she also taught two courses: “Iranian Women Writers in Translation: A Feminist Perspective” (the first course on Iranian women’s literature at UMD) and “Advanced Persian through Literature by Women Writers.”
